Preventing child obesity: new directions for policy with Diane Abbott MP, shadow minister for public health

This roundtable event will bring together Diane Abbott MP, shadow minister for public health and Professor Terence Wilkin, professor of endocrinology and metabolism, Institute of Health Service Research, to discuss will new approaches to preventing child obesity.

Professor Terence Wilkin will discuss the findings of the EarlyBird Diabetes Study which has generated new and sometimes counter-intuitive findings with significant implications for public health policy. These include evidence that both child and parental diet in the very early years of a child’s life may be much more important in causing child obesity than a lack of physical activity among children.
