Making Localism Pay: The politics of local government finance reform
Delegates at the LGA Conference this year are welcome to join IPPR North at this fringe event, where we will explore the politics of local government finance reform.
Wednesday 29 June 2011, 6.45pm
Hall 7, ICC, Birmingham
As the Coalition government conducts its review of local government finance, this fringe event will consider the prospects for reform and the devolution of greater financial powers to local authorities. It will ask whether there can be real localism without substantially greater financial powers for local government and, if not, how can the political barriers to greater local fiscal freedom be overcome?
- Clive Betts, Chair, Communities and Local Government Select Committee
- Anna Turley, Editor, Progressive Localism
- Richard Kemp, Vice-Chair of the LGA and Leader, Liberal Democrat Group
- Ed Cox, Director, IPPR North (chair)
