Ideas on the 3rd Floor: A world-class civic university
This event will discuss how Newcastle University aims to match academic excellence with civic engagement, to get a beneficial feedback loop by the adoption of three large scale societal challenge themes: Ageing and Health; Sustainability; and Social Renewal.
28 March 12.00 to 14.00
IPPR North offices
3rd floor, 20 Collingwood Street
Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 1JF
Speakers include Chris Brink, who is a philosopher and mathematician who transformed Stellenbosch University in South Africa from the intellectual heart of apartheid into the mixed race institution it is today and Vice-Chancellor of Newcastle University since 2007, who chairs the Newcastle Fairness Commission, which seeks to create a fairer city.
This event is part of the Ideas on the 3rd Floor programme, which is a series of in-house events on a wide range of topics within politics, culture and society designed to bring the freshest ideas and the most interesting thinkers to Newcastle for intelligent debate of some of today’s most pressing social challenges.
The event is free and open to all but it is essential that you book your place as we anticipate demand will be high and space is limited. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to book.
