Keynote speech by Diane Abbott MP, Shadow Minister for Public Health
In her first major speech on public health since being appointed Shadow Public Health Minister, Diane Abbott will redefine the Labour Party’s position on public health and children’s health.
Monday 05 March, 11.00 - 12.00
IPPR offices, 14 Buckingham St, 4th Floor, London, WC2N 6DF
In light of recent figures which reveal that 19% of year-six pupils are obese, Diane Abbott MP will call for a ‘revolution’ in approaches to public health and an end to what she refers to as the current ‘chips and Playstation 3 culture’. Ms Abbott will use the speech to outline her distinct philosophy on public health and her intention to vastly raise the political profile of children’s health issues, and address the thinking behind the government’s approach to ‘nudging’ and ‘responsibility deals.’
