Thu 26 Jan 2012, 12:00–14:00
Is Englishness now the dominant source of identity for the English? Do the English still believe that Westminster is capable of governing in the interests of all parts of England? How will the English react to further constitutional change in Scotland?

Thursday 26 January, 12:00-14:00
IPPR offices, 14 Buckingham Street, London WC2N 6DF

Speakers include:

  • John Denham, MP
  • David Davis, MP (invited)
  • Professor Richard Wyn Jones, Cardiff University
  • Professor Michael Kenny, Queen Mary, University of London
  • Jackie Ashley, the Guardian

Drawing on the most comprehensive examination of English public attitudes towards questions of identity, governance and nationhood this seminar will discuss the extent to which a growing sense of Englishness is becoming politicized and its implications for British politics.

The seminar will mark the launch of a major new IPPR report on the English question. Richard Wyn Jones will present the findings of the report, with responses from John Denham, David Davis (invited) and Michael Kenny.
