Commission on Public Sector Reform in the North East, 2007

ippr north is hosting a Commission on Public Sector Reform in the North East. The Commission, which is being run by ippr north in Newcastle, will explore the policy challenges around the reform and renewal of public services, with a particular focus on the North East region.

Commission on National Security in the 21st Century, 2007

National Security has become an increasingly important issue in recent years and despite strategic reviews in the Ministry of Defence, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and elsewhere in government, the UK government has not yet developed a comprehensive national security strategy.

ippr is hosting an independent Commission on National Security in the 21st Century to address this issue. Read more.

International Climate Change Taskforce, 2005

This taskforce brings together global stakeholders to tackle climate change and to advise progress on international climate change policy, especially in the context of the UK’s presidencies of the G8 and EU. 

Commission on Sustainable Development in the South East, 2004

Five working papers were produced for this commission, covering economic growth, quality of life, housing, transport, water use and flooding.

Commission on Public Private Partnerships, 2001

ippr brought together leading figures from business, government, academia and the trade unions to try and forge a consensus on the role of the private sector in delivering public services. The commission published a final report, and a number of supporting papers.

Forum on the Future of Social Housing, 1999

This Forum's task was to carry out an independent inquiry into the future of social housing, to promote an open and inclusive debate and to develop a consensus on the way forward for social housing.

Commission on Public Policy and British Business, 1997

This commission resulted in several reports, and argued that government should strike the right balance between promoting competition, encouraging co-operation, and ensuring the supply of high quality inputs, to provide the right incentives and environment for private business to perform better. 

Commission on Social Justice, 1994

The findings of this commission offered a convincing vision for a more progressive Britain grounded in a clear understanding of the forces that shape the world we live in. The report was highly influential and its recommendations have been the subject of considerable debate.
