ippr north – Internship (10-13 weeks)

This internship will be based in our Newcastle office

£12,776 pro rata per annum (£6.53 per hour)

ippr north is looking for an intern to support the work and background research of our Commission on Public Sector Reform in the North East and to provide general administrative support to the team.

ippr is the UK’s leading progressive think tank and the only UK think tank to benefit from offices in both London and the North. ippr north explores the local, regional, national and international dimensions of a diverse range of policy areas. Our research, together with our stimulating and varied events programme, aims to deepen democratic engagement in the North. 

Commission on Public Sector Reform in the North East was established by ippr north in autumn 2007. Its main goal is to analyse the policy challenges faced in the reform and renewal of public services within the context of the North East’s distinctive needs, and to offer practical policy recommendations how reforms should be taken further to match distinctive regional needs.

The intern will help with running different Commission’s activities (seminars, focus groups, meetings, etc). The ippr north team will also require help with background research, managing networks and general administrative tasks. 

Job Duties:

  • Support in running Secretariat for the Commission on Public Sector Reform in the North East, including arranging meetings, seminars, public events and conferences if required
  • Help in conducting research for the Commission
  • Administrative support, including database management
  • Attendance at relevant seminars and events
  • Other duties as required by the team

Experience/Qualifications/Training:

  • Good honours degree in the social sciences
  • Proven written and research skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Some understanding of UK public policy, ideally in relation to public services and UK governance system
  • Familiarity with basic office software, web-browsing and e-mail
  • The ability to work well in a team

The intern will be based in the ippr north office in Newcastle for a period of approximately 10-13 weeks starting June 2008 or as soon as possible. Flexible or part-time working is available.
