Introduction

As part of our programme of work on ‘The Future of Migration’, ippr co-hosted a gala conference at Wilton Park from 4 - 6 December 2008, examining how migration might look and be governed in 2030. It included speeches by UK Foreign Office Minister Bill Rammell, Kenyan Minister for Immigration Otieno Kajwang and Director General of the IOM William Swing. Further details. |

Following international conference in April on forced migration and climate change, we are pleased to upload the full transcript of the conference (and podcast of Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP's speech) to coincide with the release of a special issue of Forced Migration Review on climate change. The October issue of FMR has a major focus on climate change and displacement. In response to growing pressures on landscapes and livelihoods, people are moving, communities are adapting. This issue of FMRdebates the numbers, the definitions and the modalities – and the tension between the need for research and the need to act. 37 articles by UN, academic, international and local actors explore the extent of the potential displacement crisis, community adaptation and coping strategies, and the search for solutions. Several of the articles are adapted from presentations made at the ippr conference on Climate Change and Forced Migration in April 2008. Printed copies of FMR are free of charge. If you would like to receive one or more hard copies for your organisation, or multiple copies for distribution to partners and policy/decision-makers, please contact the Editors at fmr@qeh.ox.ac.uk. |
For more than a decade ippr has been leading the way in promoting a rational, balanced and fair debate on issues of asylum, migration, integration, race equality and citizenship. Our strong publications, links in government, and considerable media attention allows us not only to influence, but also to figure largely in domestic and international policy debates on the issues.
Through our well developed, evidence-based research, the migration team's opinions and ideas remain headline news and researchers are regularly called on to make appearances on radio and TV outlets such as Channel 4 News, BBC Newsnight, and The Richard and Judy show.View our latest articles.
