Lord Sharman OBE has been chairman of Aviva Group since 2006 and has served as a Liberal Democrat peer since 1999. A chartered accountant he rose to become chairman of KPMG worldwide operations in 1997.
He joined KPMG in 1966 and worked in a number of overseas offices. He was responsible for KPMG Europe and Scandinavia from 1970 to 1980, before being appointed a partner in the London branch in 1981
Colin Sharman served as a member of the ABN AMRO Supervisory Board for many years. He also a non-executive director at Reed Elsevier, BG Group and on the board of Group 4 Securicor and has held numerous other directorships.
He is an honorary member of the Securities Institute and serves on the Advisory Board of The George Washington Institute for Management. He is a companion of the British Institute of Management. In February 2002, he completed a study of Central Government Audit and Accountability commissioned by the Treasury.
