Eurostat Monitoring Report

Europe , sustainability , population and demographics

IPPR provides analysis of issues surrounding the changing demography of the European Union, writing chapters for the 2009 and 2011 Eurostat Monitoring Reports.

Every two years, Eurostat – the European Commission’s official statistical organisation – publishes its Monitoring Report evaluating the progress of the European Union’s Sustainable Development Strategy (EU SDS).

Launched by the European Council in Gothenburg in 2001 and renewed in June 2006, the EU SDS aims at improving and sustaining the quality of life for current and future generations of European citizens. The Eurostat Monitoring Report objectively evaluates this progress through the assessment of relative statistical indicators and determining whether Europe is moving in the right direction towards the goals and targets outlined in the strategy.

The 2009 Monitoring Report and 2011 Monitoring Report are available at Eurostat.
