An economist and writer, John Kay focuses his work on microeconomics and the relationships between economics and business. A Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics, his career has also spanned think tanks, consultancies, business, and investment companies.

Formerly research director and director at the Institute of Fiscal Studies, John is now a member of the Scottish Government's Council of Economic Advisors. He has been a professor at the London Business School and the University of Oxford, and was the first director of Oxford University's Said Business School.

John's latest book, 'Obliquity - how our goals are best pursued indirectly' was published in March 2010. Other published titles include 'The Long and the Short of It' in January 2009 and 'The Truth about Markets', his major work on the operation of market economies, in 2003. He also publishes a weekly column in the Financial Times.
