Reg leads IPPR's work on energy policy and also works on climate change policy. His experience covers energy markets, low-carbon generation, energy efficiency, behaviour change and sustainable consumption.

Reg’s primary interest is in harnessing new technologies to transform the energy system into one that is decarbonised and affordable with improved market outcomes for consumers and businesses.

Reg is a prominent voice in national debates about energy policy with a track record of securing high-profile media coverage for his work. He has recently been interviewed for programmes including Newsnight, The World at One, You and Yours, BBC News 24, Sky News and Radio 5Live and regularly provides comments to the press. His writing has appeared in the Independent, Guardian, New Scientist, Economist Intelligence Unit, New Statesman and Ecologist.

Before he began his career in energy and climate change policy, Reg worked professionally as a music composer, performer and teacher. During this time he was actively engaged in local politics and founded a number of community-level initiatives to reduce carbon emissions. He first gained experience researching climate change policy at the RSA, before joining IPPR.

Reg holds an MSc in environment, science and society with distinction from University College London and a BA in music from Liverpool University, and has studied at the Guildhall School for Music and Drama.

Reg is a trustee of the sustainability charity Bioregional.
