
Insurgent government: How mainstream parties can fight off populism and rebuild trust in politics

Across the western world it feels like a sea change is occurring in our politics. At the heart of this is a simple fact: large numbers of people increasingly feel that mainstream politics is failing to deliver for them.
As a result, mainstream parties are seeking to innovate to address these concerns. One proposal is for these mainstream governments to become ‘insurgent’. But this concept has not been fully defined – and new political slogans are easy to say and hard to turn into a reality.
This report attempts to address this: we define what an insurgent government should stand for and how it can deliver real change.
