Chart of the month: Disparities in regional productivity
One of the reasons that a new industrial strategy is necessary is that productivity in the UK lags well behind our major competitors. But the problem is worse than this, because there is such variation in productivity between the different nations and regions of the country. To improve living standards across the nation, an effective industrial strategy must address these stark regional imbalances. The IPPR Commission on Economic Justice will be exploring how best to achieve this.
