IPPR Progressive Review: Faster, Smarter, Greener? Mobility in the Digital Age
Digital technologies are starting to disrupt urban transport systems. Journey planners, car clubs, on-demand private hire, and other mobility services could work with other transport modes to drive positive network effects, reducing air pollution, congestion and increasing public and active transport use. Conversely, concerns exist over the potential for negative network effects that undermine the ongoing move toward more sustainable behaviour. How can we transform our approach to urban mobility to realise the potential of new technologies to make cities more sustainable, smarter and inclusive?
The event will open with a presentation from Dr Venkat Sumantran, co-author of Faster Smarter Greener - The Future of the Car and Urban Mobility (MIT, 2017).
Attendees will then hear responses from leading thinkers in public policy, industry and academia, including:
- Simon Wright, Industry Editor, the Economist
- Bridget Fox, Sustainable Transport Campaigner, Campaign for Better Transport
- Alistair Kirkbride, Executive Director, Carplus Bikeplus
