Mind the Gap: The Health and Care Funding Crisis - Private Roundtable
This private roundtable will look at the current crisis in health and care funding, and consider the options for a more sustainable, long term funding settlement for the NHS and social care.
This event will look at the current crisis in health and care funding, and consider the options for a more sustainable, long term funding settlement for the NHS and social care.
There is a predicted shortfall in social care of £1 billion per year between now and 2020, while the NHS Five Year Forward View projects a £30 billion deficit in the NHS by 2020/21. At the same time, there has been an upturn in long waiting times and insufficient staffing, often accompanied by growing public fears about possible service reductions and closures in their local areas.
The additional funding for social care announced by the Chancellor in the recent Spring Budget will only provide limited relief from the pressures faced by councils across the country, while the strain on the NHS continues to grow. This event will take stock of the nature and scale of these challenges and begin to develop ideas about what a more desirable funding arrangement for our health and care system could be.
