This event was chaired by Diana Fox Carney, with responses from Jeremy Taylor, chief executive of National Voices, and Michael Macdonnell, head of strategy at NHS England.

Enhancing patient power in the NHS has been a long-cherished ambition. Today patient power remains marginal rather than mainstream in the NHS. The decisions that impact most on patients are still taken by clinicians, commissioners and policy-makers in Whitehall. This important report calls on the current government to change that.
