Private Roundtable: Levelling Up and Community Capital

The government’s levelling up agenda aims to spread opportunity more equally across the UK and tackle geographical inequality. Much of the rhetoric around levelling up relates to the North of England, but other areas are also at risk of being left behind. Bristol is a city of contrasts – hugely successful in many ways but with some areas of significant deprivation. It should not be overlooked as part of the delivery of the levelling up agenda.

This roundtable will seek to explore the current need for levelling up, including inter and intra-city inequalities, and speak to Bristol’s unique needs and opportunities to ‘level up’ social and human capital, covering both community capacity and skills.

Speakers include:

  • Desmond Brown, Director, Growing Futures
  • Mark Pepper, Development Manager, Ambition Lawrence Weston
  • Amy Kinnear, Chief Executive, Southmead Development Trust
  • Emma Harvey, CEO, Trinity Community Arts Ltd
  • Chair: Luke Murphy, Head of the Environmental Justice Commission and Associate Director for Energy, Climate, Housing and Infrastructure, IPPR

This roundtable took place from 14.00 – 15.30pm on Wednesday 12 October. This event was held in partnership with Bristol City Council.
