Webinar: Tilt towards tech: Encouraging digital innovation in health and social care

An online event

IPPR is delighted to host this online event on the role of smart technology in the health and care sector, in partnership with Vodafone.

The Covid-19 pandemic has radically reshaped society and the ways in which all sectors of the economy operate. In health and social care, the crisis has accelerated many innovations that had otherwise been taking decades. For example, in 2019 71 per cent of general practice consultations happened face-to-face, whereas as of April this year, 71 per cent were remote (RCGP 2020).

The Covid-19 crisis has validated many of the benefits of telemedicine and of being able to interact with medical professionals remotely. But the opportunities for digital innovation do not end there. The possibilities unleashed by 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) technology touch almost every part of the health and care system; from the ability to conduct surgery remotely, improve patient independence and fight loneliness, to the use of drones to transplant medical supplies between hospitals.

The lessons learnt from Covid-19 should be reflected in how the health and care sector approaches the adoption and spread of innovation going forward. This event will be an opportunity to discuss how the increased willingness of both patients and NHS staff to embrace technology, coupled with the rapid expansion of knowledge and capacity, can be built upon to create a digital first health and care system. We’ll discuss the opportunities that innovation presents, and the commitments and investments needed to realise this ambition.

The event will take place on Wednesday 11th November at 16.15-17.30 (GMT), and will be held online using Zoom, which can be accessed via internet or phone.
