Mayoral Referendum Debate: do our cities need their own Boris?
IPPR North will host this important and timely debate, alongside the Newcastle Yes and No campaign, between high profile advocates for and against city mayors ahead of the May referendum.
Tuesday 17 April 18.30 - 20.00
Bewick Hall, Newcastle Central Library, 33 New Bridge Street West Newcastle Upon Tyne, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 8AX
We are delighted to be joined by Andrew Adonis and Jeremy Beecham. Andrew is the former Secretary of State for Transport and former Director of the Institute for Government where he led a tour of the twelve cities that will hold a referendum to determine if they will introduce executive mayors. He will argue here in favour of mayors. Jeremy Beecham is the former leader of Newcastle City Council and will lead the opposing side of the argument against elected mayors.
This event is being held in collaboration with both the Yes and No campaigns for elected mayors in Newcastle.
The event is free and open to all but it is essential that you book your place as we anticipate demand will be high and space is limited. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to book.
