William Ellis
Senior economistWilliam Ellis is a senior economist at IPPR, specialising in macroeconomic analysis.
He leads on the UK macroeconomy — including monetary and fiscal policy stance, and issues relating to the OBR and Bank of England — and supports macroeconomic elements across wider projects. He also works on fiscal sustainability, exploring long-term debt frameworks and fiscal–monetary coordination.
Recent work includes dissecting the UK’s recent productivity data and the potential impacts of AI on labour markets. William has held roles at HM Treasury, Oxford Economics, and in academia, and holds an MSc in Economics from University College London and a first-class BSc from the University of Leeds. He is experienced in applied econometrics, forecasting, and policymaking frameworks, and in communicating economic insights.
