The Constitution of the United Kingdom
This landmark publication represents a rare attempt to formalise a written constitution for the UK. As James Cornford, then director of IPPR, notes in the preface, it was 'drafted in the conviction that an example would advance the public argument more effectively than further general discussion of the problems which it raises and attempts to resolve'.
The file available for download is a searchable PDF file, posted in January 2014, to coincide with the publication of Democracy in Britain: Essays in honour of James Cornford, an edited collection celebrating the contribution of IPPR's former director to British constitutional debate and reflecting on more than 20 years of reforms and societal changes that have occurred since The Constitution of the United Kingdom was first published.
