From division to belonging: Identity and citizenship in Britain
About From division to belonging: Identity and citizenship in Britain
What does a progressive patriotism look like in practice: in policy, in communities, in civic life? Together with The Conduit, we are delighted to present this event which asks what this fixation on nationhood says about where we are as a country.
Questions of identity and shared values have become central to political debate, but why? This is a vital moment to explore how we can reimagine what it means to belong to, and believe in, Britain today.
We are delighted to be joined by Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, Member of the House of Lords, Author, and Former Cabinet Minister, and Jon Cruddas, Former Member of Parliament for Dagenham and Rainham and Author, to consider how we can articulate a sense of national belonging that feels inclusive, not exclusive, taking inspiration from Baroness Warsi’s book Muslims Don’t Matter.
This is part of IPPR's event series in partnership with The Conduit. For more information on this event or others in the series, please contact events@ippr.org.
