About Private roundtable: Unpacking the Spring Statement: signals for the year ahead

While the Spring Statement is not expected to bring with it the scale of anticipation that came before last year’s Autumn Budget, it remains an important point of reflection on the economy and public finances, and the impact of the government’s economic policies.

With many of the same factors – including fragile business sentiment, high inflation and stretched public services – still in play and the opinion of the voting public even more at the forefront of minds as the May election period looms, any choices will be closely scrutinised by markets, businesses and the public alike.

We are delighted to be joined by Ruth Curtice, Chief Executive of the Resolution Foundation, to discuss and analyse the implications of the Chancellor’s Spring Statement for the UK economy, public finances and political narrative, and to reflect on what it signals about the priorities and direction of travel of economic policy for the rest of 2026.
