Farage “pseudo-resignation” is going to further undermine trust in politicians, says IPPR

Harry Quilter-Pinner, executive director of IPPR, said:
“This is an unnecessary pseudo-resignation straight from the right-wing populist playbook, designed to divert attention from legitimate scrutiny of Farage’s financial dealings. But the real issue is whether our democracy is strong enough to withstand the growing influence of big money, opaque donations and anti-establishment theatre.
“At a time of declining trust in politicians, this is exactly the kind of spectacle that corrodes faith in democracy. Britain needs stronger rules on donations, standards and transparency, so public life is shaped by voters, not wealthy interests.”
