Safeguarding democracy: Civil liberties and the right to protest in the UK

The right to protest is at the core of our democracy. However, with our politics becoming increasingly polarised, there are increasing tensions between maintaining security and preserving civil liberties.

We were delighted to be joined by the Rt. Hon. Sir David Davis MP and Akiko Hart, Director of Liberty, for a discussion chaired by journalist and commentator, Zoë Grünewald, which explored how we can defend the right to protest and freedom of expression, and rebuild democratic trust, at a time of deep political and social division.
