Peter Hill
Associate fellowPeter Hill is an associate fellow at IPPR.
Peter Hill was the COP26 CEO and director general of the COP26 Unit from October 2019 to December 2022. Prior to this, Peter was the principal private secretary to the prime minister and director general for the prime minister’s office at 10 Downing Street. He was also the prime minister’s sherpa for the G7 and G20.
His previous roles have included director of strategy at the FCO, as well as roles in the Office for Security and Counter-Terrorism in the Home Office. In 2009-2010 he worked at the independent Chilcot inquiry into the Iraq conflict. Between 2006-2009 he was in the cabinet of the European trade commissioner, Peter Mandelson and subsequently Catherine Ashton. He has also worked on a range of security and multilateral issues in the FCO and overseas.
Prior to joining the civil service, Peter was a junior research fellow at The Queen’s College, Oxford.
At IPPR, Peter will be working on questions relating to climate, industrial strategy and foreign policy.
