Steven Haines
Associate fellowSteve works on education policy, inequality and youth employment.
He started his career as a civil servant working at the Disability Rights Commission on the introduction of the Equality Act, in central London on community projects for the Learning and Skills Council and advised ministers in the Department for Education in the early days of the Innovation Unit.
Steve was head of policy and Strategy at Save the Children and went on to build their first global campaign. In 2015 he was an advisor to the UN Secretary General, working on his maternal and child health initiative Every Woman, Every Child.
As director of policy for the National Deaf Children’s Society he helped create the youth led campaign Deaf Works Everywhere and was a member of the Ministerial Advisory Group for the Special Educational Needs System Leadership Board.
He is the author of Education, Disability and Social Policy for the Policy Press, which is now in its second edition and How to Go to Work for Penguin Random House.
Steve worked for IPPR in the early 2000s, focussing on the teaching profession and school improvement. As an associate fellow he will be working on the future of education.
