Tariq Modood
Policy Advisory CouncilTariq Madood is the founding director of the Research Centre for the Study of Ethnicity and Citizenship at the University of Bristol, and the Bristol director of the Leverhulme Programme on Migration and Citizenship with University College London. His research interests include theory and politics of racism, racial equality, multiculturalism and secularism, with especial reference to British Asian Muslims; ethnic identities, national identities and the 'second generation'; ethnic disadvantage and progress in employment and education; comparisons within and between western Europe and North America; and the politics of being Muslim in the West.
Tariq is also helping to lead EMILIE: A European Approach to Multicultural Citizenship: Legal, Political and Educational Challenges. He is a regular contributor to the media and to policy discussions and is a member of the National Equality Panel.
He was a member of the IPPR Commission on National Security in the 21st Century.
