Everyday democracy: Taking centre-left politics beyond state and market

The political challenges that Britain faces are severe. Everyday democracy is key to responding to them effectively. It is, nonetheless, an aspect of our politics that the centre-left has overlooked for too long, partly because it appears to be so difficult to build.

In this essay, Marc Stears, visiting fellow, IPPR, argues that an exclusive focus on state and market is a mistake and that we need democratic transformation that fosters stronger relationships between people.
