The Kyoto World Water Forum is an important opportunity for the international community to get serious about the scale of the global water and sanitation crisis. This unique collection of essays, bringing together some of the leading thinkers on water and sanitiation issues, does just this.

Over 1 billion people have no access to clean drinking water and 2.4 billion people lack safe sanitation. This is a major cause of death and morbidity worldwide. In the developing world, one child dies every fifteen seconds from diarrhoea, caused largely by poor sanitation and dirty water.
